Confirmed by Google leadership as an experimental UI test, this redesign marks a pivotal transition from passive information retrieval to active, task-oriented execution right from the main landing page.

Deconstructing the New Homepage Interface

To understand why this change is momentous, one must look at how the front page of Google is structured during this experiment. Instead of nudging users solely toward a text query, the new layout presents distinct entry points designed for multimodal and generative tasks.

Clicking Create images bypasses the traditional image search directory entirely. Selecting Brainstorm launches an open-ended conversational session powered by Google’s Gemini intelligence. Tailored for exploratory thinking, this mode assists with project outlining, trip planning, content creation, and problem-solving through structured, multi-turn dialogue.
